Complete guide to RC cars, how to know which one to buy.

Chapter I

Have you ever played with remote control cars? If so, you will know that these toys are not only for children, but also for adults. There is a car for all tastes, from those SUVs prepared for mud water, to those that overcome obstacle tests at high speed to win a race full of adrenaline.

These cars controlled by us are the perfect excuse to have fun and spend time with family and friends. They are ideal to enjoy with your children those incredible adventures that could not be done with a life-size car. The following article will help you make the perfect purchase to get started in this fun world.

The most important

Although, as we have said before, a remote control car can be enjoyed by both children and adults, the characteristics of this must be adjusted to the user's taste. For this, you must take into account what use will be given to the car, as some are oriented to high-speed races and others are slower made to overcome stones and more complex terrain.

There is a wide variety of remote control cars. There are the off-road (off-road), which are usually more resistant to collisions and can ride on almost any type of surface. And there are the on-roads, which are generally faster, but more sensitive to impacts, since they have been designed to travel on smooth terrain such as pavement. They also exist for mixed conditions.

Why buy a professional remote control car?

Radio

Nowadays, most include controls with 2.4 Ghz frequency, this will guarantee you continuous signal without interruptions, they will not have interference and the range will be something you will not have to worry about since you will first stop seeing the car before it loses signal.

111.jpg

Materials

Always look for good quality materials that are explosion-proof and non-toxic. Nylon is a very impact resistant plastic that is being used more and more. A remote control car that is made of this material can probably be used longer, since the risk of damage from falls is minimized.

Aluminum, a light and resistant metal, is the best option, good and safe for all uses. Also, check that the car is resistant and waterproof.

15.jpg

Power

Professional cars have power to spare. Some can exceed 100 km / h, so if you have the batteries charged the wheels will not stop turning due to lack of power. The voltage range is from 7.2 Volts to 29.6 volts from 1:12 to 1: 8 scale, this is an approximate since they can be modified to withstand higher voltage.

Inner workings

The reasons that make these cars so efficient when it comes to moving around are their internal workings, very similar to those of a life-size car. These feature gimbals, differentials, oil-filled shock absorbers, multi-speed transmissions with reduction gears, and mechanisms for locking differentials. These mechanisms are activated by servo motors, the same ones used to move the car's steering.

55.jpg

Speed

The speeds vary according to the type of car, all-terrain, street or mixed, the slowest being the all-terrain vehicles due to the force multipliers they have to be able to climb over rocks and steep terrain. those of speed or street generally exceed 50km, but there are models that reach 160km / h. and the mixed ones are around 60km / s up to 90km / h or more.

Physics

Given the real need to absorb potholes and ground imperfections, these cars have softer suspensions filled with silicone oil which absorbs impact. This makes the movements of the car more natural, similar to those of a life-size car.

Spare parts

If something makes a difference with toy cars, it is that there are all the necessary spare parts to always keep your car operating, to the point of being able to buy all the parts separately and assemble a 0 car from the transmission gears to the tires and electronics, all parts are replaceable due to breakage or simple wear.

66.jpg

Accessories

This is one of the most interesting points in the world of radio control of cars, since there are a wide variety of optional parts to improve and beautify our cars, from wheels and tires of different masks and sizes to shock absorbers, lights, tracks for wheels and bodies, counterweights to lower the center of gravity, motors and speed controllers to increase the power of our car.

64.jpg

In the table below, I place 4 excellent models to start considering that they are of great quality and versatility, it must be taken into account that these vehicles are not low-end. Simply being a crawler or climbing they do not reach the dizzying speeds that can make us lose control and break several pieces. They also offer excellent autonomy, reaching 35 or 40 minutes depending on the battery installed.

Recommended battery

These models support any battery without problems although the traxxas model needs a special connector that includes the traxxas battery and the Venom indicated below, likewise with a little trick you can change the connectors, it is normal to do so, there are even batteries in the market that comes without connectors so that everyone can place the one they like the most, I recommend NiMh batteries since they are heavier and these cars are favored by weight, the Milli amps the more they are much better since we will increase the playing time of our cars. A point in favor of these batteries is that they do not require maintenance or experience of any kind unlike a LiPo battery that requires more attention for charging and discharging.

Talking a little about each one

  • Traxxas TRX-4 1/10 RTR.

  • Axial Wraith 1/10 RTR

  • Team Associated CR12 Tioga 1/12 RTR

  • Redcat Racing GEN8 Scout II 1/10 RTR

Traxxas Trx-4 RTR.

This particular model is one of the best options to start, it is a fairly advanced car, of excellent quality and will not fall short once you get used to these small cars. It has several points in its favor such as its two-speed transmission, the option to lock the differentials to maximize grip and that nothing stops it. They also come in several models that I will show below.

POSITIVE OPINIONS

   Metal chassis.
   2-speed transmission.
   Lockable differentials
   2.4 Ghz control.

NEGATIVE OPINIONS

   Does not include battery.
   Does not include charger.

It can be a little slow given the reductions in                     transmission and wheels.

Variants

Here we can find some variants in case you do not like the bronco, we have three interesting versions such as the 6x6 version or the version with tracks, practically two tanks of war. We also have a simpler and cheaper version, the SPORT version that comes from the factory with the differentials permanently locked.

Accessories

As I mentioned before, for these vehicles there are a large number of accessories both to beautify them and to improve their performance, below

Body or body to replace the original that our car brings, this includes the necessary towers and stickers to prepare and install it and to be fully assembled.

This set of tracks will give you virtually unstoppable traction on any terrain, including mud, sand and even snow. This comes fully assembled for installation in a few minutes. Oil filled spring shock absorbers to control rotational movement. Suspended road wheels allow treads to adjust to uneven surfaces.

Metal window mesh adds a touch of stiffness and style.

Kit to increase height, and thus be able to climb stones and more difficult obstacles, this increases more than an inch and includes everything necessary to make the modification.

Brass counterweights for axle end reductions, apart from giving a touch of style offers the advantage of adding weight and lowering the center of gravity of your car.

Full machined aluminum and anodized shaft for a good look. Directly replaces the original plastic axle housing.

Brass cover to protect the differential, add 65gr of weight to the axle so you can get a better grip on your tires. Increase stability and make you more capable overall.

If you want to personalize your car one of the first changes that we will always make will be the wheels and tires

Ideal to protect the lower part of our car, we also add weight, lowering the center of gravity.

Changing the series tires will improve the grip of our car, in addition to giving it a new look.

Axial Wraith 1.9 RTR

The Wraith 1.9, is the first and only one created by Axial designers specifically to offer Wraith's drag ability and technical rock-tracking ability while running on 1.9 wheels and tires. This vehicle expertly combines the chassis of original full tube Wraith with the axles and transmission of the SCX10 (a Crawler from another category, professional we could call it)

POSITIVE OPINIONS

   Metallic transmission gears.

   2.4 Ghz control.

   Sliding Clutch.

   Low Price

NEGATIVE OPINIONS

   Does not include battery.
   Does not include charger.

Variants

Here we have the version that we have already seen and additional 2 somewhat more extreme models, the Axial Capra, a crawler with some improvements such as suspension and metallic lower rods and geometry for more extreme routes and on the other hand we have the Wraith Spawn, this is somewhat larger and robust, the gear ratio makes it faster and they come with unlocked differentials. no possibility of rear locking unless a differential lock is installed.

Accessories

Because this is a relatively new model, there are not many accessories to replace. But if the stock of original spare parts needed for replacement.
